MARGIE MAYS is a singer, songwriter, actor, and host based in Los Angeles, CA—though on any given day, she also moonlights as a serial step-counter, Titanic trivia fanatic, and woman most likely to spill something on herself before noon.

Originally from Wilmington, Delaware, Margie first moved to California to attend Stanford University, where she studied Human Biology and Communication (because understanding the body and telling its story just made sense). She graduated Phi Beta Kappa but ultimately followed her heart—and her high notes—to Los Angeles, earning honors in Vocal Performance from the Los Angeles College of Music.

Shortly after graduating, life came at her fast—in the form of national television. Margie became a fan favorite and Top 40 finalist on Season 2 of ABC’s American Idol (2019), where she was hailed as “the most energetic person to ever go on American Idol” and famously dubbed by Katy Perry as “the greatest person I’ve ever met.” Her boundless joy made her unforgettable, and she loved the experience so much she came back for more on Season 3 (2020), which you can still stream on Hulu (or Netflix, if you’re fancy and international).

Her screen career took a romcom turn in 2022 when she booked not one, not two, but three films in a row: you can check her out in Wedding in the Hamptons, The Case of the Christmas Diamond, and her biggest booking yet—starring as the lead in the romantic comedy Lucky Hearts, now streaming on Amazon Prime.

In 2023, she stepped into sitcom, guest starring on FOX’s Call Me Kat alongside Mayim Bialik, Broadway's Cheyenne Jackson, and Kyla Pratt, a dream combo platter of comedy, music, and "Wait… is this real life?"

Her stage career continues to hit high notes. She starred as Jane Porter in Tarzan the Musical at the Moonlight Amphitheatre, where the San Diego Union-Tribune praised her as having “the best voice in the cast.” The performance earned her a BroadwayWorld nomination for Best Performer in a Musical (2023).

Following that, Margie originated the title role in the world premiere of “Alice, Formerly of Wonderland” at the New Vic Theatre in Santa Barbara. Playing the once-famous Oxford girl who inspired the Alice in Wonderland books—and who famously fell in forbidden love with the Prince of England—Margie took on one of her most emotionally demanding roles to date, garnering yet another Best Performer nomination from BroadwayWorld.

Previously, she won over audiences and awards alike with her turn as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde the Musical during a 10-week Hollywood run, taking home BroadwayWorld LA’s Best Performer in a Musical (2022) and StageSceneLA’s Best Breakout Performance (2021–2022). What, like it’s hard?

Most recently, Margie made her professional voiceover debut as Poodella in the upcoming Build-A-Bear animated series, helping to bring the iconic animals to life for a whole new generation. (Yes, that Build-A-Bear. Yes, it’s as adorable as it sounds.)

Beyond the stage and screen, Margie has built an online community of over 200,000 people, where she shares music, musings, and the messy magic of being a multi-hyphenate creative in real time.

When she’s not on camera or behind a mic, Margie teaches voice lessons and coaches musical theatre auditions. For the last decade she has helped young performers not just sharpen their technical skills, but really learn to believe in themselves (and maybe even their head voice).

And when the curtain falls? She’s probably dancing in her kitchen, building another playlist for her next character’s imaginary breakup, or double-checking if power walking counts as cardio. (It does.)
